In Media we looked at about experiencing music video. Carol Venallis compared a music videos to early Russian movies. The idea is that both are very limited
Formalist Russian Movies are very limited. They was not sound so they could not dialogue in these films. Most of the population is Russia was not able to read. So they could not put text on the screen for dialogue as most of the audience could not understand. This lead to editing being used. A lot of unique editing effects were used in these films in order to create meaning for the viewers watching.
This is similar to how music videos are made. They dont really have any dialogue in them. Music videos have very short shot duration, so not a lot can be included in the whole duration as it is usually just two minutes. There are so many close ups, and performances shown in music videos. This is what majority of a music video is made up of. A lot of expressive editing is used in Music Videos to make to look very unique and to create some sort of meaning to it. These are the similarities between Formalist Russian Films and music videos.
All of this information is useful to the creation of our sequence. As we now know a better understanding of how music videos are constructed and the different elements of music videos.
