Essay

Across the Media campaign for the band midnight's people these products all display how branding, representation, conventions and audience engagement is shown.

In the  Music Video these young teenagers are represented as fun loving and carefree. 

These two pictures show the band having fun together during the chorus of the music video.

In This shot there is a mid shot of the whole band performing during the chorus. The main singer has quite a fun happy facial expression with his mouth wide open while he is singing. Lighting has also been used in the music video by having leds with this specific shot showing a green light in the background and that flashing light is something associated with a party or a fun type of vibe. He is wearing this pink and white jumper and the right guitarist is wearing a jumper with clouds on them which Is quite light hearted and cheerful. The main singer also has his arms out wide. He also has make up on. The Camera is focused so it shows his happy face. The Diegetic Music of the soundtrack is also upbeat and happy which is linked with the genre and is synchronous with their acting. This moment is overall very playful and happy and this is positive to represent the Stereotype of playful teenagers. A  choose to portray this type of character and this genre of music as it is catchy and would appeal to a large range of audiences such as young audiences as it is quite an innocent and happy song and would be able to reach them and a broader audience.  This is also shown in the digipak with the design elements having quite bright and vibrant colours. A label would use it as it shows liberal values which would be able to be sold to especially a younger audience.
In the Instagram these young teenagers are represented as a typical teenage friends which is shown with their various posts that show them together, that creates that type of link between the members and the posts show them enjoying performing together. 


 This post shows them sitting on a bench smiling clearly showing their relaxed and happy around each other which portrays that sort of friendship vibe. 
Overall This is positive as it displays their whole sort of brand and characters to the audience. This could be sold to audiences as they would like that sense of unity and, this is a stereotypical thing for a lot of teenagers to post. They post themselves with their friends having fun and this is what is happening and it's what is shown with the social media. 
The Music Video is constructed to represented the star image to be the type of Creative artists that enjoy the music they make and are talented.

The Music Video shows this with the sound of the actual song and also shows with how the whole band are acting in the music video. This can be shown with the fridge content in the music video. 


This particular moment of the song shows the creativity of the band and the lead singer. The Camera cuts to a mid shot of the lead singers face as He is in the fridge. There is a bright blue lighting in the fridge which displays their creativity, with led lights also being present in the performance.. The music video shows him taking bites of different food in the fridge and messing around with everything and that is a unique Idea that shows of their creativity. The song choice also shows their creativity and talent with the song sounding quite catchy and good for the ears that a large range audience would enjoy, This music displays whole bands musical talent and creativity and that creates their whole image and brand that a lot of people would be able to enjoy.

The Digipak has design elements that will help the band to appeal to a younger audience. This is shown by the colouring used in the digipak and the logo of the band. The band logo has a bright orange colour to it. On the Digi Pak it has clouds in the background. The Digipak. The colours are bright showing their branding to appeal to young audience. Other elements that show this on the digipak are the flower doodles around the digipak background. These flower doodles are again put on the digipak as it is quite a happy display which represents their genre as indie pop and them showing their genre helps it appeal to that younger audience getting into music. A label would choose that band as their genre is extremely popular in todays age especially within children and teenagers. It’s a very mainstream type of music that would be played everywhere so because of that, A label would choose that band, and it would sell a lot.

 



The Social Media campaign show the signs of surveillance within a lot of its concert promotion and album promotion posters. These posters give key information on where their new tour or concert is going to be.

 

This is the poster hat was uploaded to the Instagram. All of the information is written in a bright green colour. This was done in order for the poster to fit the theme and genre of the band. There are drawings in the background of people relaxed, they are in hoodies as well. It shows off the date of the tour in the Middle saying July 5-8. At the very stop it shows reviews from the independent and the guardian saying how good the band is. This creates a good image for the band and makes it more worth while for audiences to go. It’s directly addressed to the audience and quite formal.


This is another poster that promotes a tour. It clearly shows every city and venue at the bottom. It’s all in black and is very formal simply trying to inform the audience of where the tour is going to be.

Personal Relationships are also shown both within the digi pak and The Social Media Campaign. This is shown with the photos that are shown that connect not only show the connection the band have together but the link between the Audience and the Band.

Digi Pak shows this with the panels having pictures of the band together. The picture of the band together are also framed by a white square around the picture. This is effective in showing relationships as it shows the unity between the bandmembers, the white frame around with the blue background of the digi pak makes that look very positive and happy. 


The Social Media also shows this with a lot of their posts. For example this one post shows All of the band members sat on a brick wall showing their friendship as a band.


There is also the post that shows them In the Studio. This is to remove the boundaries between the band the audience and let the viewer see what they are up to with their life. It is really an informal type of post to get a better connection with the audience.  

 

There are typical Indie band Conventions present within the campaign. This is shown within the social Media page. Looking at other Indie bands on social Media, there are posts that are very similar to our Social Media Page.

For Example this post from  a Band is similar to the type of posts that were on our Social Media Page.

This Instagram post shows the band simply hanging around together . They are quite laid back and chilled out and seem to enjoy each others company. This is a quite Similar Style to the posts that we created with. Thus post is quite bright with a sun shining In the background.

This is a similar type of style with the whole band chilled out together, this is also with a bright background which reflect the genre. 


More conventions are shown within the music video. Looking at other music videos I got a song that shows conventions. 

I looked at This  music video. The conventions that are in this music video are very similar to the ones that are in the music video peach. In this music video  there are blue and purple lights. The blue and purple lights are a similar convention to peach. In peach there are LED lights. So both uses of lights are both clear conventions of Indie pop and how Peach is similar. Using the shot that I used to explain representations. They are both mid shots that are focused mainly on the lead singer. This shows how it is similar and sticking to indie pop conventions because the main focus is the lead singer. The lead singer in this music video is wearing a flower shirt, and the lead singer in peach is wearing a shirt with flowers which show similar conventions as it is portrayed as happy and fun. The other band members do wear different clothing to the other band members in peach who wear similar clothing to the main singer showing how conventions are challenged.  The way they are edited is a lot different. With this song always shows the main singer and just shows different shots of the band while he is always there. In peach It cuts between the performance shot and the fridge which shows the difference and shows Indie pop conventions being challenged. It is mostly similar and Peach does not challenge many traditional conventions and a label would choose the band because the indie pop style is very popular and sellable and this band shows it.

Overall Branding representation audience engagement and conventions are all present in this campaign with all of the products. This portrays a fun happy Indie pop band that would appeal to many people is effective in that.
