Music Video editing

Leant how to edit a music video.

We learnt ways of editing a music video and tips of how to actually do it and what works. 

We will first do a performance cut of the song. Where we just edit all of the performance footage together of all the close ups and wide shots of the band members doing their performance. Then narrative will be integrated into the edited video, with all of the extra parts that will be put in, in the different parts of the music video. This will be for our music video, the performance will be in the band room that we chose with the fish eye lens on the camera. The performance in the band room will be shot first and edited together. All of the extra things such as the peaches and kitchen things are parts that will be edited in the performance cut

We have to make sure to properly sync the footage with the song. Put a time code onto the song, there will be an iPad that will plat a video on the help sync the footage. A drum will be put in to count the song. On premier pro, there is an icon underneath that can rename shots. Need to make sure we sync all of our footage with the music video. Find shots to choose a number to sync with the part of the shot. The sound syncing also has to match perfectly. There are certain parts in the music video like transitions that have to match up with footage, like for are peach song with the chorus transition, we can use the shot of the flower to go into that next chorus and then show the band performing. 

We have to listen to the video, find the first line of the song and it has to be with the face of the singer. We have to show the lead singer singing in our band room at the very beginning for our music video.

We should group shots together, with the different band members. If there is a shot of a drummer, then it should then transition into another shot of a drummer like a close up of a drummer, for example we could use our guitarist for a shot closed up on his face, we then could get a  close up shot of his hands with the guitar playing, and all of the shots we make of him should be together in the music video. 

A solo Artist is a lot more difficult, they have to find a way to illustrate the different sound effects after the performance cut, it is a lot harder than a band to do. Our song is a band so it would be easier than a solo singer. 

Small chunks should be edited at a time, 10 seconds a time to focus on those small chunks and make them as good as they can be. 

Final Master Document

 This is our final master document which outlines all of the costume, set and props that we need and who will be bringing what.

Master Document - Google Docs

This is the beginning of our Master Docuement, it highlights each member of the group and to shows the link to the YouTube video of the song. This also highlights the cast of our band showing each and every band member that we will have. 

This is the set that daisy drew, it shows some of the shots that will be in our music video. One of the shots that will be shown is of someone in the fridge, that is one of the parts that will definitely be in our music video.

Straight after, it shows the fridge. The fridge is something that we want to get from the school, this was just showing what the fridge should look like for our set in the studio. It is very important to our video as it is the key element of the video with the camera and a lot of the shots will be related to the fridge.

There are then all of the props that we will be using, and what we will be bringing in.

These are some of the props that will be used in our music video. They are mostly kitchen related items that we want to make shots of. The peaches especially are important for our music video as it is kind of the main part of the song, with the song name, called peach. Ben is bringing ketchup and peaches.

These are more of the props that we will be using in our music video. These are items that Daisy will be bringing in. She will bring in plasticine which are for the music video set. The camera's are important for some shots in the music video. The pink egg tray is also important as it is a kitchen item for the kitchen set that we will be making use of, and that fits in with the whole fridge kitchen things we are going for. The green table cloth is also something that she will be bringing in. 

These are more props Georgia will be bringing in. The kaleidoscope glasses are important for the music video that we are creating. We want to put them on the camera for parts of the music video to make a cool lense. The glasses on the camera look really good and worked for the practice video so it will work for the actual music video, and what we are going for. The letters are for the fridge and Georgia will bring them in as we want to do a stop motion of the letters.

These are the items that I am going to bring in. They are some of the props. They are for the kitchen shots that we will be using. I will be bringing bubbles which is for the whole song to fit in that whole happy vibe. The eggs and the flour shows some of the items we need for the music video. They are also going to be in the kitchen setting we will be using. They could be for the cake shots that we are using. Wooden Spoons and Whisk are also for some of the shots, we want to have a shot of someone whisking so it is another Item I will be bringing in to use.

These are all of the costume that we will be using. Some of the costume will be brought in by Georgia and Daisy, and the rest will be brought in by the band members themselves to wear for the music video. The costume colors are overall kind of bright colored, and has a very happy tone which is something we want in our music video.

Emailing

 There was some emailing that was done by ben and Georgia to contact people. Ben  made an email with the copyright request to the label. and Georgia emailed Dave Parsons about access to the band room. 

The first email  that Georgia made is talking  about the access we need to the band room. The band room is important for music video as it is our main filming space that we will be using. We want to have the fish eye lense on the camera that works in the band room when we are filming our performance. 

Ben emailed the label about a copyright request, telling them that we want their song for our music video. We need access to the song so it is important that we get access to the band room. It's important for the whole process of filming our music video.

Risk assesement

 I did the risk assessment for our music video. Most of the risk assessment was done already I just had to add some extra things to it.  I looked at some extra aspects of the risk assessment. The extra parts that I looked at were some of the weird unique filming that might be dangerous and looking at food.

One of the things that I deemed could be dangerous is the fridge. The fridge could be dangerous as it is heavy. It could fall down on someone and hurt someone. So I put that in the risk assessment highlighting the risk and how if the risk occurs, that first aid and medical attention would be applied to however is the victim of the accident. Other unique parts of our music video that could potentially be dangerous, is the blender. The blender could potentially be really dangerous as if someone got their hand in the blender, they could get really hurt because of the sharp blades that are in the blender. I put this on the risk assessment and how it could be dangerous. I also highlighted about how our set could be dangerous, such as inside the band room. The band room area could be dangerous because of all the instruments that are heavy and are being used by the band and it is in a tight compact area. The band members are experienced with using their instruments and will make sure that they won't drop them and be safe with them, if something is to happen, then first aid. I put that on the risk assessment.  I looked at the band room and the different parts that we will be using there such as the lights, and mentioned how that could be dangerous. I then looked at the part about food and drink and stated that we would have a lunch break and that water is available in the canteen. Overall this risk assessment that I did is important for our music video so we know about everything that could be dangerous and make sure none of those dangerous things happen. I sent the risk assessment to the rest of my group.

Rehearsal Dress

 We did another rehearsal of the band singing together. I recorded the videos of the band.    

In this rehearsal all of the band members were wearing all of the right clothing that Georgia suggested that they were to wear. 

This Video Is just a practice and I think that all of the clothing and costume looks really good and fits the band members and the performance seems to be getting better. 

I did two videos of going through the whole song and actually singing it out loud and, it's going  a long quite well. 

Meeting about music Video

 We met up in the lesson to talk to someone about our set and how our overall Music Video would look. The first things that they did like and parts that we should include and things that we should start to be doing.

We spoke about the Prototype Video first which was showcasing a lot of our scenes that we shot and created. All of the shots were just shots that we did on our phones in order to test them out to see if they work or not.

We were told that the whole performanc3e room that we were using was very good and that It really suited the band and the type of style we were going for. The room linked with the fish eye lense looked really good and that specific band room worked for it, so we might use that for our actual music video. We would use the Tv Studio with a lot of the narrative type shots in there, like some of the extra things. 

We were also told that we could make some of the extra short shots longer with more focus so it could make sense to the viewer. These shots include the flower shots that we did. 

We were also told that we could use the canteen to film all of the kitchen shots, such as the flower shots and the peaches. That Canteen really worked in the prototype music video so we could actually use it. But we would cover the place with peach themes. The kitchen can work for a lot, with our whole Ideas with circles being in our music video, we could make use of the big circle thing with the salad and maybe put fruits tin there and peaches. We could also make use of those wholes in the walll. 

We could do some more shots in Relation to the kitchen which can be shot outside of school at home. A suggestion of a stop motion video of cake in the oven showing it pop up.

We were finally told to bring a whole shot list of everything to bring in, including all of the different set Ideas showing each and every shot we want in the music video and to have a whole prop list that will also detail each Prop each of us will bring in.

The Prototype

 This is the prototype Video that we made, we did different shots, we did it to get an Idea of how some of our shots and Ideas would looked to see if they worked. Georgia edited it together.

From the first shot It can be seen that it really works, the very first shot which shows the fish eye lens of the camera really works for us and we want to use that In the actual music video. So  further looking at the music video there are other elements that work and don't. They seem to be having fun in the music video. 

The shots with the blender look really good and work. So that could be used further and more shots about using a blender could be used to take more time in the music video. The band room really works with the Fish eye lens as well.

The kitchen shots in the canteen also work quite well. This is because these shots are quite fun and show and we can be quite creative about what we can do with it. The kitchen shots such as blowing the flower look really good and work. We could also make use more of the fridge shots to so they can have more focus. Right now the fridge shots are quite short and don't add much so more could be use from them to add something a bit more. The peach stop motion does look really good  and we have to have that in the final music video. 

The shot with the magnifying glass and the person on the floor looks quite good and maybe we can try and fit it in the actual music video. 

The peach stop motion shots look quite good, but they did not really fit in the video because I think a lot more could be made use of that peach stop motion/ It was just there in the video for a few seconds and did not work. So I think If we did more of  that in  the video, then it would look better.

The living room shots look quite out of place and there is really no point of having them there as it looks out of place with everything else such as the kitchen shots and the band. 

The shots with the glasses look good, and looks really unique and would definitely work in our final music video.

Overall It is really good and a lot of the shots really work. The kicthen based shots are really effective and are quite fun which is the whole point of the video, however some shots feel out of place such as the living room shots, but overall more can be added to make to look better such as using more of the blender and the fridge. 

Peach stop motion

 I did a peach Stop Motion Video to test out for the Music Video. I took pictures of different peach circles and took different pictures of taking the peaches away. I printed out a picture of peaches and cut all of them out to putce and then filmed these. 

These peach stop motion photos were just part of the process of making the prototype so we can see whcich shots work and which don't. This shows me just taking multiple photos of taking peaches off of the cake and It will be stop motion in the prototype of the peaches just one by one being removed. I did this three times in a different way. First I Did It one by one. Then I did one of removing them by two, doing it symetrically and finally I did some shots of putting the peaches back on to the cake, so it is interesting to see all the different ways It will be integrated in the music video, we want to do it in different ways, so it can take some more time off of the video, so It can take a few seconds in the music video.  This was very useful as when it is in the prototype we can see if it works and if we like it or not. 

Prototype feedback

 The Set is really good.

The performance is good, they look like a band and feel like a band.

The Stop motion of the fridge is better than the other stop motion.

Maybe a shot of him opening the fridge and him inside the fridge getting out the peaches. So more shots about the fridge.

The couch shots do not add that much to it. We were thining that we should remove those couch shots as well as they did not do much and seem out of place.

The Fish Eye lense looked really good, so It looks really good for the type of video we are filming, it makes it really unique.

Digi Pakk

 We looked at Digi Pakks and the different conventions of them.

We looked at things such as the size of the Digi Pakks and the different aspects of them .

 140mm Is the with of the digi pak

125mm Is the height of the digi pak

Digi Pakks to not have any photos of the exact music video on them, they have entirely diffferent photos that show the artist or band and what type of theme and type of music they do. 

Digi Pakks can be in a plastic tray or in a carboard trey. Some can be more designed than the others so it can add some sort of Value to it. The Digi

 The Digi Pak design will match the whole theme of and genre of the artist. So for example a rock music type of Digi pakk will be really dark and black, and a pop Digi Pakk would probably have more bright colours

Some have stickers, some don't have stickers

 They also have to include all of the legal things. They have a legal copyright notice on them which is front 1 or 2. They have a barcode. A Comapny's Logo is also included along with a Product Code. The Artist and Album name would obviously be on the Digi Pakk. The the label that the Artist is Asociated with would also be there as well.

Website Adrress  would also be on the Digi Pakk.

The Intertior panels are more variable. 

Genre conventions depend on the style of the music, and the image on the panel. Artwork, photographs of the artist. 

This is the digi pak that I looked at I found it online, and The whole style of the digi pak was quite similar to the genre that we were going for. 

This right here is the disks of the digi pak which has
the whole album on it with every song. This bright orange colour would suggest that they are quite a nice chilled out and fun band.

The front cover of this album cover also shows that they are some sort of fun band. This is because of the colour and also because of the little drawing that Is on the Digi Pakk. The Little tree drawing that suggests some kind of beach or some setting which gives me a hint that It is really brighht.

This shows the insides of the Digi Pak., it showcases what seems to be the band members of this band. The band members are having a drink, with sunglasses. The background image is pink and that further shows the whole vibe of this album.

Test Video Ideas

 Working on our test shoot for our music video. We have decided on some of the things that will be shown in our test video. Daisy will be there on days to film the band singing the music video. She did that on Wednesday. The group went to film the band on days. I was not able to go and join in the filming process because I was not available on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. We wanted to test out a lot of the ideas that we wanted to include. We wanted to test out the shot with the glasses, the purple glasses that Georgia brought in are going to be used for are music video and the test shoot for it. We wanted to test out a lot of the kitchen Ideas. This included aspects of the music videos, such as knife cutting peaches. Other parts We wanted to try out was showing the shot of the blender, just to test out a lot of the ideas that we created.  This is useful on  a whole for are music video, as it will showcase all of the Ideas and we can see which works and which does not work.

The Master Docuement

 Ben made a master document that included all of the pictures and names of all of the props, costumes and set we need to get. This the document, and we know everything we need to get from this so we can create our music video.

This is a picture of a lot of the set that we are going to need the school to get for us. Things such as a wooden chopping board, a fridge and a clock, are all going to be needed for our music video. All of us are unable to bring these items to school, which is why we want the school to get them for us. The drum is especially important as it is an instrument that one of the band members is going to use which shows an example of one of the crucial items that we need.

These photos here are items that daisy is going to bring for the set. This includes rug, plants and lavalamp. All of these things are useful for are living room type of set that we are going to have and we need the items to match  what our intensions of what the set should look like. We want to make a sort of interchangeable set with different sets which show the different band members, such as a living room and a kithen.

These are some of the props that we will be bringing in and using for our music video. These props are useful for the whole vibe of the song and so they can fit in with the set. The props such as the peaches, are really important for our set as that really fits our overall happy playful vibe we are going for. I will be bringing in, eggs, flour and bubbles. The eggs and the Flour are both for our kitchen set that we are having, this is effective in creating the exact type of set that we want. The bubbles are for the whole video which fits in with that fun theme. 

These are more of the props that we will be using for our music video.  There are items such as a table cloth that we will need for our kitchen set. The blender that daisy is going to bring in is needed for our kitchen set. The colourful glasses that Georgia brought is something that we want to use for the camera, as we want to put the glasses on the Camera. I have worn the glasses and it is very colorful and would look really good in the music video. 

The Costumes for our music video are for the band members. We were aiming for kind of casual/bright and happy costume. The mushroom shirt shows that and what type of theme we are going for. 

This shows more of the costume that we are going to be using. Some of the band members will be bringing in their own costumes because they have something similar to the type of costume that we want from them.

                  

Prototype

 We started to plan how our test shoot would go. We are going to to a test shoot of our band with the actual music video and looked at prototype videos and how we are going to make ours.

A Prototype is smaller version of the larger package. The smaller package being the music video. It does not represent the final version of the product, but it is just a smaller version of what it is likely to look at, and it is made to see what It looks like, to see what works and what does not. To look at the different aspects of the video, such as the set. The Casting to see how they are performing in the video. It has to all be coherent. 

We planned on what our Prototype Video would look like. We wanted to include various elements of our ideas, such as the microscope Ideas and mirror Ideas. We wanted to test out the Idea of putting glasses on the camera to switch to transition to the song. All of this Is really important to see how our music video would look, so we could see what works and what does not work.

Planning what is in our video

 We  needed to finalise the look of our music videoto show on Monday, so we can get everything sorted out. We all split up and looked at the different parts of the music video to firmly decide on so we know exactly what is going to be In it. My part was looking at different wallpapers to see what they would look like. I also got some images to look at, to see what the background of the set would look like. 

This yellow colour set that I found was really good, The group liked it and the colour but we do not know if we are going to use this colour, but It was just a suggestion. The bright yellow colour was really good for our music video and kind of fits in with the whole peaches vibe.

This orange type of concept which I showed to my group was really interesting. They really liked that type of colour and thought It could work well with out kitchen type set. These are the type of colours we want in our music video to show the unique different sets that we want to have. 

This pink concept was really good. My group liked this one as well and thought that It could be really good for the living room set. The colour is good and bright and would fit well with our music video and song. If we were to use this colour for our living room set then it would be very good. The pink sofa that we want to have would also fit in very well with this set.

This blue set is something I really liked and found interesting, I really like the colour of it and we could definitely use it for our music video.

These are just some different concepts as to how the background colour could possibly look. This would just show the background colour in our music video, but with some items to show the different set and one of the band members. This Is useful for us to get an Idea of how the colours would look if we got it in the background of our Music Video. All of these different suggestions are useful for looking at a range of different colours so we can choose some for our music video and see which one fits best.

This blue wallpaper looks very good and would fit will with the music video. The pattern of it is very good and something that would work well.

This yellow wallpaper is another exampel of one of the wallpapers that could fit well. This one also has an interesting pattern to it. 

These are some of the other wallpapers that I looked at to see what we could use. We wanted really bright colours to be the wallpapers as that would be really effective to reflect exactly how it would look on the wall. This would be good to get an idea of different wallpapers so we know which ones we want for our music video.

Light Workshop

 We did a Media Workshop Where We looked at a lot of different lights.

First of all we looked at the main light which Can light up the whole room for when we are filming or not, it would be turned off for filming and when cut, we would turn it on again.

There are also other lights around the studio that would be really useful for Our Music Video These are things such as the top lights above that shine directly down to focuse on someone. This would be useful if we wanted to light up our main singer with it.

All of the lights are controlled with a lighting rig at the back and there are sliders that can be used to adjust how

There is a screen that also lights up when light is shined into it and can be used to create a sort of scenary and this can be used for our music video if we want to use it for are happy themed video.

We also looked at these small bar lights, that had colors.  This would be useful as we want our music video to be very good and colorful to represent our indie pop band 

The ideas and presenting my wallpapers

 We further looked at what we could do for our music video Idea. I got all of the wallpapers I found on the internet and sent them all to my group via a link. I sent a link to  pink, blue, green and yellow wallpapers. This was linked to the Idea of Interchangeable sets and how we want them to be intergrated into our music video with each band member getting a different wallpaper and we can cut between them. The group really liked the different wallpapers. The wallpapers are all about 12 pounds each to buy. The interchangeable sets are for the different type of sets and settings, We want to have a kitchen Set and a A  We explained all of the Ideas that We had to Phil and Matt, and we got feedback as to what we were going to do. One of the Ideas was that the Camera Is someone and We could do a lot of things involving using the Camera like in transitions. We looked at the Idea of microscopes as well, like we can have a microscope in the Music video of the camera looking down at the band with the whole Idea of magnification. . All of these are different unique Ideas We wanted to look at and try to include,  but we have to consider how long the Music Video is going to be. It has to be 2-3 minutes and We need to try to integrate the important things in there as well such as the actual band performing, need to see if we can use all of these Ideas in the music video, we still have to go back to the main Idea which is about peaches and that fun happy aspect to It.

First rehearsal

 This Is a video of the first rehearsal. Daisy recorded this rehearsal. A lot more practice needs to be done here. But this is a good starting point. The main singer knows the lyrics of the song which is good. All of the band member cast look the part and they look like they are having fun and working well together. The rehearsals will be done consistently every week so eventually they will get very good at it

Feedback from our treatment.

We were given a lot of feedback about out treatment that we created for our music video and were told about some things that could be changed and things to think about. For x example, the mirror set was an interesting idea we looked at. We were told about changing the set to copy the other side, like a checkerboard. There was some problem with ours that we were starting to lean towards just focusing on the props and the whole set rather than the band. We are trying to do a Wes Andersen style of music video, but our treatment shows that the idea is nearly there, but we need to continue to think about how the band will actually look and be peforming. We were also given feedback about the multiple props that we had in the treatment that would not work in the actual video. For example, the picnic would not work with a blue background. We wanted to get a sofa but we cannot store a sofa for the filming day. We had a lot of images in our treatment that we wanted to integrate into our music video. We were told not to focuse too much on props as that would just fill up the whole music video instead of the actual band and did not want the foucse purely on the props. 

We decided to think about how the whole music video would look, and maybe remove some props. We wanted to make sure that the band had a lot of focus.

We split up and looked at the different ways in which we could further develop our ideas. I further looked at some Mirroring photos, alongside Ben and we put them onto the treatment. 

These are all the ideas of mirroring we looked at. The Idea was that at certain parts we wanted one part of the screen to reflect the other part.

What We further Did was sort out the sets of  the music video that we were doing, so we knew exactly what we were doing and where we were filming our Band. I got a lot of images together of exactly what the kitchen set would look like, I got images of all of the props that It would have. We were thinking of having three different sets for the different band members kind of. We wanted to have the bands next to each other but each member with a different background which we switched between. The colors of the background would help us in showing that very fun vibe we were going for. These, are the images of the kitchen set I got together. Very simple, a kithcen table with peaches, a chopping board, Rubik's cube and lemon squeezer and a mini fridge. We wanted to get all of these items together to put in one of the backgrounds that we would use to make a kitchen type set. This is the idea of the interchangeable sets we were thinking of.

We futher looked at our Band Idea and We looked at the Ideas of magnifying and looking through things, It could be we look through a microscope or a magnifying glass and see the band. We tought up of different ideas for magnification.

These are examples of the wallpapers that I looked at for our music video. These are the type of colors that we were looking for, different colors, Like green Blue yellow and pink. We want these for the different background of the Band Members, this would help the video a lot in distinguishing from the different sets.
